The oldest tunnel on the line between Picton and Christchurch is closed with trains now travelling on a new stretch of track, just south of Ward in Marlborough. Over the past two years KiwiRail, with Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency and project contractors Tonkin Taylor and HEB Construction, has built 1km of new track and a new overpass for SH1 traffic.
