The Wallowa River is one of the best places to spot spawning kokanee, a favorite reminder of the changing seasons. You can watch salmon spawn at many places around the state, but the Wallowa River, where it runs into Wallow Lake, is very accessible. Just remember to tread carefully and leave the fish alone to do their business. Well, here's something you don't see every day. Our aquatic biologists and field staff are in the middle of the kokanee salmon spawning season at the Roaring Judy Hatchery near Gunnison.
