COLGATE Ask any Filipino kid what toothpaste is, and they’ll probably say “Colgate.” In many homes across the Philippines, that word became the name for every toothpaste, no matter the brand. Every time a kid runs to the sari-sari store, you’d often hear them say, “Pabili po, Colgate… ‘yung Close-Up!” That’s how much the name stuck. Colgate’s journey began in 1806 when William Colgate opened a small soap and candle shop in New York. His son, Samuel, would later create Cashmere Bouquet, one of th
