The wreck of the German battleship Scharnhorst (the World War II vessel) was located in December 2019 in the Barents Sea, approximately 1610 meters deep. It was discovered by Mensun Bound's expedition using the research vessel Seabed Constructor and lies upright with most of its hull intact, though the superstructure is destroyed.
