Giants fire Shane Bowen

The New York Giants announced on Monday that they fired defensive coordinator Shane Bowen after the team failed to protect yet another lead in Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Detroit Lions. Bowen has been replaced by OLB coach Charlie Bullen.
Sometime around 5 o’clock Sunday, the Giants' interim coach was asked if he still had “full confidence’’ in the team's embattled defensive coordinator.
• Jim Schwartz (Browns defensive coordinator): This would be an excellent hire — but it depends on Kevin Stefanski getting fired and his replacement deciding to not retain Schwartz. The Browns currently have Pro Football Focus’ top-rated defense. Of course, Myles Garrett helps.
If Brian Daboll, who was fired as the Giants head coach two weeks ago, wasn’t so fiercely protective of his coaching staff and had let Bowen go, he might still be the head coach of the Giants. Bowen should be fired by the Giants on Monday morning as soon as the coaches reconvene at the team facility.
The New York Giants hope that outside linebacker Abdul Carter's supposed nap will become a wake-up call for the touted freshman.
