Empire Offshore Wind, a subsidiary of Equinor, has been notified by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) of the US Department of the Interior that the stop-work order for its Empire Wind project has been lifted.
Gov. Kathy Hochul, in a separate statement, confirmed the move, and thanked President Donald Trump for allowing the $7 billion-plus project to resume construction. The stop-work order had been issued April 16, just as offshore work was set to begin about 14 miles off Long Beach.
While politicians, environmental groups and union leaders rejoiced that Empire Wind can move forward, some worry the Trump administrationās concession is meant to pressure Gov. Hochul to approve local gas pipeline projects.
