The Mountain Fire is largely "buttoned up," Ventura County's fire chief Dustin Gardner said at a news conference Monday evening. As authorities get a clearer view of the damage, however, the work is just starting. By one measure, the number of homes destroyed in the blaze that erupted last week has crept closer to 200.
