Trump and Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani signed several agreements earlier on Wednesday, with the first being a Boeing order from Qatar Airways.

In total, the White House said, the deals announced by Mr. Trump amounted to more than $243 billion between the United States and Qatar.

Experts said the idea made no financial or practical sense given that Boeing is already deep into a multiyear effort to convert two 747s to replace current Air Force One planes.
