The Lebanese army entered two towns Friday in the Tyre district in southern Lebanon following an Israeli withdrawal, according to the Lebanese state news agency, NNA. The development comes barely one day before the deadline for the withdrawal. Israel, however, said earlier that the withdrawal could take longer than the 60-day timeline.

The Israeli military said on Friday that it remained deployed in southern Lebanon while maintaining the terms of the ceasefire deal. The army conducted strikes targeting Hezbollah weapons storage facilities and active observation posts in southern Lebanon over the past few days,

Israel and Hezbollah agreed to withdraw from southern Lebanon, but Israel says that Hezbollah hasn’t upheld its promise and that the Lebanese Army isn’t ready to fill the void.

JERUSALEM (Reuters) -Israeli forces will remain in southern Lebanon beyond a 60-day deadline stipulated in a ceasefire deal with Hezbollah because its terms have not been fully implemented, the Israeli prime minister's office said on Friday.

Israel has said it is delaying the withdrawal of its troops from southern Lebanon, as it said Lebanon had not yet fully implemented its part of a ceasefire agreement. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said however that the gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops would continue in coordination with the United States.
