The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office claims that Owens "altered an ultrasound image, fabricated a pregnancy video, and lied multiple times under oath."

The charges stem from Owens’ petition for a court order for paternity against Echard, in which she alleged that she became pregnant during a sexual encounter with him in May 2023. She later withdrew her petition after saying said she suffered a miscarriage in November of that year.

Arizona authorities began investigating Laura Owens in July 2024 after she allegedly made several inconsistent statements during a paternity hearing.
