Jochen Mass, who has died aged 78, took part in more than 100 Formula One Grands Prix between 1974 and 1982. Although he won just one of those races – in dramatic and tragic circumstances in Spain – he had 32 victories in various other motorsport events, most notably in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1989.

Former Formula 1 racing driver and 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Jochen Mass passed away on Sunday, May 4th, from complications following a stroke in February of this year. The German racer was 78 years old and, up until his stroke, still an active member of the motorsports community, attending and participating in race events.
