As the Irving City Council was set to talk about a contentious issue Thursday night – whether or not to allow the construction of a destination resort, the Las Vegas Sands Corporation announced it is pulling the casino-style gaming component until they gain traction on the state level.

Just hours before a key vote, Las Vegas Sands asked Irving city leaders to remove the casino portion of its proposed resort plan. The developer—also the new owner of the Dallas Mavericks—made the change after public pushback. NBC 5’s Candace Sweat reports from City Hall.

The Irving City Council early Friday approved the amended zoning proposals with no gambling portion in two separate 6-3 votes.
