Federal cuts to weather balloons could disrupt storm forecasts in Louisiana, leaving residents vulnerable to severe weather.

Up until one month ago, the twice-daily launches were happening at 92 National Weather Service offices across the United States.

NBC reports that at least 10 launch sites in the continental U.S.— including some in South Dakota— have suspended or limited launches because of the Trump administration’s cuts to the NWS staff.
