Donald Trump’s lead in Michigan became insurmountable after he improved his margin in Detroit’s county and won overwhelmingly in Republican-leaning parts of the state, closing off Vice President Kamala Harris’ path to victory.
Michigan residents voted on a variety of races on Election Day (and earlier), including for president, for Michigan’s next U.S. senator and for every U.S. House of Representatives seat in Michigan. The polls closed at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, and will results will start to flow in.
Detroit — Democrat Elissa Slotkin prevailed over Republican Mike Rogers in the election for Michigan's open U.S. Senate race following a contentious and hard-fought campaign.
Ms. Harris made slight gains in Traverse City and its surrounding counties in northern Michigan, but Mr. Trump ultimately led in most of them. Ms. Harris gained only a few thousand votes in the region while Mr. Trump swept tens of thousands of votes elsewhere in the state.
