TikTok went offline for all U.S. users on Saturday night, hours before a ban signed into law by President Joe Biden was due to take effect. If any of the approximately 170 million American users opened the app after it went dark, they were greeted with a hopeful message about the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump .
TikTok said it will be forced to go dark on January 19, the day the ban is set to take effect, without more assurances it won't be enforced.
The social media app said it would abide by a law requiring it to cease operations in the United States on Jan. 19
In a little more than 12 hours after TikTok went dark in the U.S., the platform is "in the process of restoring service," the company announced on X.
