Summer programs for children are meant to keep the kids busy during the summer, but one camp has a sneaky way of educating its students.

Pandemic precautions Cooking for the Family launched in 2016, and more than 600 students have graduated from the program so far, said Jamie Stoneham, the program’s founder and former director.

Crossroads Food Bank in NE Portland launched a first-of-its-kind food box program for children to learn cooking, complete with utensils and video tutorials.

Though younger students were cooking, the program usually caters to fourth- and fifth-graders, at Donehoo and at Striplin and Adams Elementary schools, which Guinn and Gray visited in previous months.
