Rob Blake is out after eight seasons as the Los Angeles Kings' vice president and general manager. The Kings announced a mutual parting with Blake on Monday, four days after Los Angeles lost to Edmonton in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs for the fourth consecutive season.

Blake was a defenseman for the Kings across 14 different seasons during a playing career that also included stops with the Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks. He played for Los Angeles for the first 12 seasons of his career from 1989-90 until it traded him to Colorado during the 2000-01 campaign and then returned for two seasons from 2006-08.

The Kings and long-embattled general manager Rob Blake have mutually agreed to part ways, the team announced Monday, four days after the team’s fourth consecutive first-round playoff loss to the Edmonton Oilers.
