Voters in Portland, Oregon, have elected political outsider Keith Wilson as their next mayor. Wilson, a Portland native and CEO of a trucking company, ran on an ambitious pledge to end unsheltered homelessness within a year of taking office.
The two-year seat is currently held by Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer. State Rep. Janelle Bynum, D-Happy Valley, challenged her for re-election. Bynum previously defeated Chavez-DeRemer twice to represent Oregon House District 51 in the Oregon Legislature.
ABC News projects that Vice President Kamala Harris will win the presidential race in Oregon. As the winner, Harris would take the state’s eight electoral votes. Oregon is one of only eight states to conduct entirely all mail-in elections, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
