As summer heat arrives in North Texas, the Department of Public Safety is urging Texans to prepare for the extreme temperatures.

The Dallas-Fort Worth area will be unseasonably scalding Wednesday, but other areas of Texas are expected to cook even more. The projected high for the metro area has hovered near 100 degrees all week and Wednesday’s most updated forecast from the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office has landed on 100 degrees exactly.

As the ridge of high pressure expands, North Texas will get its first "heat wave" of the year. Temperatures will soar into the 90s Tuesday, with the high temperature tying the record high of 95 degrees.
