The Cincinnati Reds have a lot of different ways they could go about the ninth pick in the mLB Draft this year. One way that was presented in a recent mock draft has them landing a very highly rated left-handed college pitcher. In Keith Law’s recent mock draft for The Athletic, the Reds select Jamie Arnold, left-handed pitcher from Florida State.

Abbott (7-1, 2.15 ERA) has pitched well enough in 15 starts to help put the Reds at the fringes of the wild-card playoff mix – and maybe well enough yet earn a first All-Star bid the way teammate Hunter Greene did a year ago.

Abbott has a case to make the All-Star Game. His 2.15 ERA trails only Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes (min. 80 innings) in the National League. At 1.9 fWAR, he ranks 17th, and a handful ahead of him have already sustained injuries, knocking them out of consideration.
