CJ Carr will be Notre Dame’s starting quarterback when the No. 6 Irish open the season at No. 10 Miami on Aug. 31.

As is the case with every position battle, there is always a starting point. The intrigue around this quarterback competition began as soon as the 2024 college football season ended. With Riley Leonard off to the NFL and Notre Dame choosing not to bring in a transfer portal quarterback, the winner was going to be a homegrown talent.

After an intense battle throughout the offseason, the redshirt freshman quarterback has earned his chance to take over Notre Dame’s offense as the program’s starting QB. Carr, a former standout at Saline, was named the starter for the Fighting Irish Tuesday afternoon – the program announced the decision on X.
