A former FEMA employee fired for instructing subordinates to avoid visiting Florida homes displaying Trump signs says the agency is scapegoating her for its own policy.

A woman who was fired by FEMA after instructing workers to avoid the homes of Trump supporters in Florida revealed that the agency also practiced “avoidance” in the Carolinas.

The former FEMA employee, Marn’i Washington, says her team in Florida was simply following standard practices.

In an interview, Marni Washington said she followed standard protocol for FEMA workers to avoid hostility in the field. She said agency guidelines clearly state they should disengage from politically hostile communities regardless of political affiliation.
