Colorado on Sunday selected 18-year-old Ethan Holliday — son of former Rockies star outfielder Matt Holliday — with the No. 4 overall pick in the MLB draft. Holliday, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound shortstop with power, was hardly a surprise pick entering the draft, as national draftniks universally had him coming to the team who drafted his father.
The Rockies entered the All-Star break with the fewest amount of wins (22), as the team — entrenched in a rebuild — has dealt with problems both in their lineup & on the mound.
If the Rockies are indeed aggressive at the MLB trade deadline, it could open the door for the returns of Zac Veen and Chase Dollander as well as possible debuts. The latter could include Kyle Karros getting the call-up from Double-A Hartford to slide in at third base.
