REEDSPORT - The U.S. Forest Service is seeking summer hosts for campgrounds near the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.

Oregon’s state parks system reflects that, with 180 different sites spread from Cape Lookout to Wallowa Lake, the Oregon Dunes to Steens Mountain. But which ones are the most popular?

The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area provides plenty of elbow room to stretch out and play: a giant sandbox that takes the breath away.

However, state parks and recreation sites on the northern Oregon Coast and in the Columbia Gorge remain closed. Oregon will begin reopening state park campgrounds on June 9.

Most of the area’s plentiful camping areas incorporate trails. Some of the most peaceful are at the Tahkenitch and Carter Lake campgrounds and the Oregon Dunes Day Use Area.
