MINNEAPOLIS — Skaters have a lot of ice to choose from in Minnesota. Now a Zamboni-maintained forest path is in the mix. At the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd-Baxter, staff are trying out something new by turning a bike trail into what is believed to be the first manufactured forest ice skating path in the state.

The U.S. House of Representatives voted Wednesday on a resolution to reverse a 2023 Public Land Order under the Biden administration that withdrew more than 225,000 acres of land in the Superior National Forest near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) from mining exploration for 20 years.

A northern Minnesota county that stretches from the Canadian border to Lake Superior has been ranked as one of the snowiest in the country.

As part of the festival's changes, there will be increased security and outdoor events will be moved inside.
