Garner won't be the first person to play the Silver Surfer in a live-action film. In 2007's "Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer," the body work of the Surfer was done by Doug Jones while Laurence Fishburne voiced the herald.

Audiences got a first look at Garner as Silver Surfer when the trailer was released last week. It features Garner gliding above the city on her floating surfboard. Before the film, the Emmy Award-winner said she familiarized herself with the "Fantastic Four" and "Silver Surfer" comics.

What surprises me most about the new trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps isn’t the fact that it’s set in the past (or at least in what the press release calls a “retro-futuristic” New York City).
