Security update KB5058405 for Windows 11 23H2 and 22H2 comes with severe side effects for some PCs. Microsoft's emergency patch fixes it.

Fix Error 0xc0000098, The Operating system couldn't be loaded because a critical system driver is missing or contains errors, bfadi.sys, ACPI.sys, etc.

On affected devices, users see 0xc0000098 recovery errors in ACPI.sys, warning that the device has to be repaired because the operating system couldn't be loaded.

Anyone whose PC is stuck in a boot loop with the 0xc0000098 message after the May update should download and install KB5062170 from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
