The suspect — Michael Parker, 28, of Lorain — was pronounced dead at the scene after the shooting. According to the Elyria Police Department, officers returned fire during the exchange, which ultimately resulted in Parker sustaining a fatal injury.

An Ohio police department says one of its officers is dead after a shooter lying in wait ambushed him and another officer as they parked to eat pizza in a remote, undeveloped area of Lorain.

Data analyzed by the CBS News Crime Unit shows at least 50 law enforcement officers have been shot in ambush attacks so far this year.
