The Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen said on Tuesday that Greenland is not for sale after President-elect Trump refused to commit to avoiding use of military force to take control of Greenland.

President-elect Donald Trump has told residents of Greenland that “we’re going to treat you well” as his oldest son visited the mineral-rich Danish territory that’s home to a large U.S. military base.

As President-elect Donald Trump continues to voice his renewed interest in purchasing Greenland as a territory of the United States, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen shared a message for him: “Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders.

Donald Trump's eldest son Donald Jr. arrived in Greenland's capital Nuuk on a private visit on Tuesday, a day after the U.S. president-elect reiterated his interest in taking control of the island, an autonomous territory of Denmark.

Denmark’s royal household said the new insignia “strengthens the prominence” of the Commonwealth, including Greenland, as Donald Trump again proposes buying the island.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen decisively stated, "Greenland is not for sale. " This was in response to Donald Trump's suggestion that he would like the island to become the property of the United States.

Addressing Trump's comments in an interview with Danish broadcaster TV2, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said she did not believe that the United States will use military or economic power to secure control over Greenland.
