Amid the ongoing backlash to Nintendo's shock pricing for the Switch 2 and Mario Kart World, two former Nintendo PR managers have described the situation as "a true crisis moment for Nintendo."
Yes, the new Mario Kart World will exclusively be available on the Nintendo Switch 2. Both the game and the console will release on June 5, 2025. Mario Kart World will cost $79.99, or you can buy the Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle for $499.99. The Nintendo Switch 2 will cost $449.99 for the console alone.
Nintendo wants Mario Kart World to be the reason players buy a Switch 2. But can it really convince us to pay $80 for a game and $450 for a new console?
Mario Kart World will launch on 5 June, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. It’ll be available digitally via the Nintendo Store (£66.99, Nintendo.co.uk ), but the physical version comes in at an eye-watering £74.99 – that’s £15 more than premium titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which launched at £59.99.

While some new Switch 2 games will be made for the first Switch, that’s not the case here.
Mario Kart World might have the most extensive character roster of any Mario Kart game, but some of these deep cuts, like Fish Bone, are truly unexpected.
The closest we got to a new Legend of Zelda game for the Nintendo Switch 2 was the announcement of Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment. The game's story directly precedes Tears of the Kingdom and it seems that Princess Zelda herself is the main character here.
We knew a Mario Kart game was coming to the Switch 2, and now Nintendo has finally shared some real details in its latest Nintendo Direct. It’s called Mario Kart World, and it will be a day-one Switch 2 exclusive when the console launches on June 5th.
