After the first day of the academic year, the Leander Independent School District bus veered off a curve for unknown reasons.

The injured were transported to local hospitals via ambulance and helicopter. The cause of the crash remains unknown, and the incident is under investigation.

In 2018, a bus driver ignored a barricade and drove into rushing floodwaters on County Road 177 at Brushy Creek, causing the bus to float backward and wash off the road. Leander police arrested the driver, who was later found guilty of child endangerment, a state-level felony. He was sentenced to two years of probation, according to court records.
