Outrage over the death of a Kenyan blogger in police custody sparked protests in the capital Nairobi this week after doctors refuted a police claim that the activist died in his cell from a self-inflicted head injury.

Albert Ojwang, a 31-year-old teacher and political blogger, based in Voi, was arrested in Homa Bay, his home county, and then transferred to Central Police Station in Nairobi. The arrest came in response to alleged insulting remarks he made on social media about a senior government official.

Protesters took to the streets of Nairobi Thursday over the death of a blogger in police custody, which has reignited long-standing anger over police brutality.
