Hurricane Iona was expected to move westward for the next couple of days and stay far south of the Hawaiian Islands, forecasters said.
The National Hurricane Center said Monday, July 28, it is keeping tabs on four systems in the Pacific Ocean, including Tropical Storm Iona.
Tropical Storm Iona became the first named storm of the 2025 hurricane season in the Central Pacific on Sunday evening local time. The storm was located over the ocean southeast of Hawaii, with winds near the center of around 50 miles per hour.

Meanwhile, data valid as of 5 p.m. Monday showed Tropical Storm Keli about 1,040 miles southeast of Honolulu and moving west at 12 miles per hour, closely following the track of Iona. Keli had maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour with higher gusts.
