PARIS — As popular as Coco Gauff is, she knew full well that nearly all of the Court Philippe-Chatrier fans would be against her during the French Open semifinals Thursday. That’s because Gauff, an American, was taking on a French opponent — and one who came from nowhere, 361st-ranked Loïs Boisson.
Coco Gauff will get a second chance to win the French Open this weekend. Gauff, 21, defeated Loïs Boisson 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals Thursday, propelling her to the second French Open final of her career so far.
Coco Gauff ended the run of French wildcard Lois Boisson to book a Roland Garros final against World No 1 Aryna Sabalenka. Gauff, World No 2, produced a ruthless performance to defeat Boisson, a player ranked some 300 places below her but who had beaten back-to-back top-10 opponents to reach the semi-finals on her grand slam debut.
Boisson, ranked No. 361 in women's singles heading into the French Open women's semifinals, is the greatest underdog to win it all. Her odds to advance to the final sit at +350, with Coco Gauff favored to advance at -475.
