The Utah Jazz "would almost certainly want" forward Ausar Thompson in return for trading 2022-23 All-Star Lauri Markkanen to the Detroit Pistons, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer.

The Boston Celtics play the Detroit Pistons in an NBA Cup in-season tournament group play matchup. Wednesday's game will be the second meeting this season between the two teams.

The Pistons are middle of the road in 3-point volume allowed and 11th in 3-point percentage allowed. Where they shine is denying 2-pointers. They allow the fourth-fewest points in the paint (adjusted for pace) and the fourth-lowest 2-point percentage. They shut that water off real quick for their opponents.

Although many view Lauri Markkanen as the perfect trade target for the Pistons, acquiring the Finnish forward won't be easy for Detroit.

It was part of the reason the Pistons didn’t make major moves during the offseason after their surprise playoff appearance. They added around the young duo of Cunningham and Duren and were prepared to let Jaden Ivey, Ron Holland and Thompson continue to show they could up their game and be integral pieces in a high-end roster.
