President Donald Trump has fired Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden as the White House continues to purge the federal government of those perceived to oppose the Republican president and his agenda.

Dr. Carla D. Hayden was the first African American and the first woman to serve as the head of the Library of Congress. Her firing drew a furious response from Democrats.
