The parade, honoring the Army’s long-planned 250th anniversary celebration and coinciding with Trump’s 79th birthday, is set to step off from the Lincoln Memorial under the threat of stormy weather in Washington and protests around the country tied to a turbulent week of immigration enforcement that has involved military deployment in Los Angeles.
Coinciding with Flag Day, the anniversary of the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official U.S. flag, and the Army’s 250th anniversary, organizers say the protest is in response to President Donald Trump’s military parade , cuts to Veterans Affairs resources and other cuts to social services and federal departments.

Thousands of demonstrators gathered across California on Saturday as part of a nationwide wave of “No Kings” protests, opposing immigration raids and what organizers describe as a turn toward authoritarianism under President Donald Trump.
Organizers are accusing the president of putting on the parade as a show of dominance. The protests were peaceful, but came against the backdrop of assassinations in Minnesota.

According to the No Kings protest website, a total of 11 protests have been planned across Louisiana. At least three of those protests are being planned in the New Orleans area.

The parade is expected to include about 6,600 soldiers, 50 helicopters and 60-ton M1 Abrams battle tanks, as well as possibly 200,000 attendees and heightened security to match.
