Bryan Kohberger was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday for the 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students, receiving the ruling after hours of emotional statements from family and friends of the victims.

Wednesday’s hearing is expected to last all day, with time reserved for Thursday, if needed. Families of the victims and anyone harmed by the burglary, like the two surviving roommates, will be allowed to make remarks or provide what’s known as a victim impact statement.

Alivea Goncalves, Kaylee’s older sister, received a round of applause after directly addressing Kohberger for 10 minutes as he was sentenced to life in prison.
