How far are you required to hike once you arrive at the Garden of the Gods? It is my understanding that you can only drive part of the way? Is that true?

It's not worth the risk. It's 100% prohibited pass that point as the road is completely impassable with a 2wd vehicle. Don't do it. 4wd is definitely the way to go. It is absolutely worth seeing. As is the beach pass the Garden of the Gods. Do both and do them with a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
